The Boy spent most of the time we were in Sydney working. I spent most of the time catching up with friends and family. But I did decide to follow him into the city for one day and just have a wander.
I took the train in and started at one of my favourite little shopping centres, the Queen Victoria Building, or QVB, as it's referred to. Built in 1898, this centre is just beautiful and I love wandering through it and gazing at the window displays of the boutiques.
I jumped from historic to modern, by crossing the street and checking out the new Westfield Sydney Shopping Centre in Pitt St Mall. The best word I can think of to describe this Westfield is "Shiny". Everything about it is shiny and glossy. Upstairs are world-class brands, but you can find stores that are a bit easier on the wallet on the lower levels. The service is great too. I only had to stand for 10 seconds looking a little lost before a man in a suit approached me to see if I needed any assistance, I don't think that has ever happened to me in a shopping mall!
I stopped in at the Cupcake Bakery for coffee and a cupcake. The Tiramisu cupcake was delectable.
And to visit my favourite shop. Seriously you can smell the chocolate from down the street. The Lindt shop is home to the best "pick'n'mix" in the world. Of course I ended up with a little bundle of goodness to take home.
From Martin Place I set off down Pitt Street to the Rocks for lunch...
